What's new

GW2 RP, anyone?

Tribune

The Bel Whisperer.
I've noticed it's gotten verrry quiet over in this forum, so I wanted to check in and see if there is still interest in roleplay in the guild. If so, I've got some ideas and would love to hear yours for keeping some regular RP shenanigans going. We could definitely discuss them here, or perhaps set a date to meet in mumble? Aaanyway... my thoughts! you can haz them:

Let's get a little story arc going: the creation of our guild. Sure, we could all fudge something into our backstories, but I think it would be way more fun to RP how the IC Arcanix is formed. How is that we all stumble into Ebonhawke and run into each other? Why the heck would a cranky badass warrior Charr decide to hang out with a bunch of wimpy smelly humans?? ;) What is the terrifying and inevitably traumatic event that binds us together as a guild? These, and more, are questions that need answers. /dramatic voice

Weekly ingame RP events. I would love to have a little roll call of folks interested in RP (no experience necessary!) so that we could pick times/days that you all could participate. My thought is that the weekly events would be the main plot points of the story arc, that would give fuel and dramuz (a good thing in RP! lol) for smaller roleplay sessions during the rest of the week. ("oh mah gawd, did that charr really smack that pretty mesmer lady the other day??" "messed up her hair and makeup and everything!" "that's like, so ruuude, oh em gee.")

Summaries of ingame RP posted to the forums. Basically after any pertinent RP session in game, posting to the forums a couple paragraphs at most on what transpired (I can start a thread for these). This is super fun especially if it's done Tabloid-media style, ie, including some sort-of true rumors that may be started as a result of the RP, and of course, any IC info that characters not in that session would know about it.

For example: If you and a couple other people had a drunken party out in the woods near Ebonhawke, you might comment that anyone in that region on such-and-such night might have seen fireworks and heard REALLY bad singing. Also that that one seemingly straight-laced character tiptoed back into town the next day reeking of booze and looking decidedly ill.

Would anyone be interested in a roleplay tutorial event? ie - what the heck is IC/OOC, How to Pose, How to create engaging & fun RP for yourself + others, general Do's and Don'ts. We could also talk about creating backstory, theme, and of course, any questions that you all bring to the table. :)

This is quickly getting tl;dr (so many things to talk about, ehrmahgerrhd rohlplehrs!) so LAST QUESTION for right now: Do folks have a preference for ingame vs. forum RP? I, myself, prefer the immediacy of ingame, but am curious on what you guys think.

I would be into this. I enjoy storytelling and getting into the lore of a world. I have some RP experience in forums such as Gaia, but it's been awhile.

I actually like the character I am playing now and I feel that she has personality and mores that are distinct from my own (I sometimes make choices in game that make sense for her, but go against my personal predilictions).

I'm pretty new to the guild, so I don't think I could presume to write it's history, but I'd love to see it unfold and take a part in it.

Count me in! I can also draw stuff, make the roleplay live even more. Never done it before so a tutorial would indeed be nice :D

I'm interested, though I'm always more of a quiet observer in RP scenarios. I love to watch/listen to it take place, some people are truly awesome at crafting great stories on the fly, but I am never really sure what to add to the conversations. :| I really prefer it in-game, vs. forum RP. I also haven't fully fleshed out my character's backstory by any means yet, still thinking about that!

If you have a screenshot and give me some time and information about his/her character, I can start trying xD I'm no pro so don't expect masterpieces ;)

Voyeur much?

.... <3

Trib I am totally all about this. I'm ok with either one. I also prefer the realtime in-game RP concept but have done my fair share of forum RPs so I could roll with either.

As to back story...I haven't even thought of anything for either of my characters but I can work on it.

Overall this sounds like a really neat idea and I would definitely be down for any of it ^_^

I'm a long time RP'er and so far 4 out of my 5 characters (working on the 5th) have backstory and current RP with a friend. I'm always happy to do walk-up RP with anyone who runs into me but I'm not much for crowds or events, nor forum RP/backstory posting.

Ehrmahgerhd you guys, I am so excited right now. I can't wait to get a story going with you all. <3 <3 <3

I will set up a RP tutorial event ASAP. How would Sat, Nov 3rd be for everyone? Then get our kickoff RP event in sometime later that week.

You are, of course, welcome to observe... and in the tutorial we'll definitely talk about some general guidelines and ideas for posing that might help you with ideas of what to do/say in RP. We'll also talk about crafting backstory. Backstory is something that tends to evolve more organically, at least for me. I like to set a general framework then fill it in as ideas come. But... haha, before I digress completely... come to the tutorial! =P

The hope is that having the events will help keep up momentum & inspiration for non-event RP, too. Though, we are still a pretty small group, so the events shouldn't be too chaotic. Either way, we're happy to have you!

I'm down with training Sat and getting things going next week. I've never done the in-game RP, but I think game mechanics + mumble will make for some great stuff.

I hope my schedule doesn't mess things up for me. I'm pretty much a nights only player, getting on around 9pm central and staying til midnight or later if things are interesting. During the day Saturday is a bad time for me since that's the 1 time during the week I actually have time with my whole family. Any evening though, I'll do my best to be there.

What time are we looking at for doing this? I have a date with Borderlands 2 on Saturday and then possibly some table top RPG action later that night. Sunday might work better since it looks like my annual NJ Schnauzer Rescue meeting is going to be rescheduled due to hurricane activities but please don't schedule around me!

If you do it Saturday, Trib can I touch base with you at some point and get the cliff's notes version? <3

Any evening after 9PM central can usually be accomodated by me. Heads up though, I have another baby coming the first week of Nov, so I will be away.

Hrm, maybe I should post that in the extended afk forum...

Baby!!! Congrats!

Rux, I will definitely post a cliff notes version on the forums, and am open to questions anytime... so for you (and anyone else) who can't make it, now worries, gotchya covered. The time is still a little up in the air as we have quite a few time zones to try and accommodate. Mid afternoon on weekends seems to be a good time for a lot of people, but then there are a few that can't get on 'till late... I might just end up doing two sessions. Will make a decision and post here in the next day, as well as adding it to the events calendar. :)

My NJSRN meeting is cancelled until further notice due to the aftermath of the hurricane and a lot of the members not being able to make it. So I should be available. I need to juggle some things around but I doubt anything can't be moved. All I really want to do at some point is BL2 but I can move that to accommodate the RP session ^_^

Should we have a back story all set up or at least outlined or anything? Also can we collaborate with other members to make a story? Since I'm Charr I'd prefer to have had some sort of event with anyone that isn't a Charr that would help bring me into Ebonhawk.

Although there is a really neat Order of Whispers hideout there so I can work that in fairly easily. Anyone else a member of the OW? We could work that angle ^_^
