What's new

you don't need us to tell you...

You don't need me to tell you that watching news is a waste of time. Go kill some skritt.

I get my news from the animal network. That's right, I'm fucking Dr. Dolittle. Hell I would probably be better off talking to the owl outside my apartment anyway.

Why doesn't the general population this is bad? lol My god did they have a local news meeting and write the script together?

Or maybe, as an alternative to a tinfoil hat, "You don't need is to tell you..." is considered a popular turn of phrase when reporting something obvious that everyone probably already knows. There are whole books written about phrases and word usage for broadcasting. It's not inconceivable that certain phrases become popular among newscasters, just like almost every other industry has its own jargon.

Which is my point exactly. No ton foil hat needed. Why do they NEED to report on things that we know about. When did this turn into gossip with the stranger in the groceries store line while clipping coupons country?

Also, there are central sources of information that news organizations use, such as the AP. So that definitely causes the nightly news to be very similar most places.

I think that the "safest" way to receive your news is from as many different sources as possible. For instance, I like seeing the same story reported by Fox, MSNBC, PBS, and Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert because each gives a slightly different view of the topic. Then I can synthesize and process those to form a more intelligent position.
