A time of commercialism and toys, we often forget the grass roots of holidays: TRADITION. So tell us what you favorite holiday tradition is!

One of my fave holiday traditions was wearing footie pajamas with my family on Christmas Eve. As we got older, we continued the goofy attire, even attending holiday parties in our PJs. Another tradition my italian family has is opening the "little shits" (stocking stuffers) for hours. We would take turns, one by one, opening the silliest of items. The sillier the better.
Sadly, since my mom passed in 2002, Christmas hasn't been the same, but I sure do cherish those memories.
Anyway, HAPPY HOLIDAYS gang, and may 2013 bring you lots of happiness, health and prosperity.
Peace,
Kismet

My family's traditions have kind of dwindled down over the years. When I was a kid, we'd go to a particular "Christmas-light park" every year, watch the same movies, eat the same foods, decorate the same way, etc. These days Christmas is very low-key and my parents usually know already what they got each other. The light park we used to go to has all but shut down, and the movies we used to watch have mostly gotten shuffled around with added new ones. My parents still watch "A Christmas Carol" every Christmas eve, and I try to watch "Claymation Christmas" every year, since it used to be my favorite. As silly as it is, I watch "A Christmas Story" at least once during the marathon all Christmas Day. Though I guess my favorite thing is just sitting in a dark living room in the quiet of late night/early morning and looking at the lights on the tree. Sometimes I'll drink something hot, and sometimes I'll even lay there until I doze off. It's just a nice, peaceful moment that only happens during the holidays.

Honestly everyone is always running in eighteen different directions that just being able to get together on the holidays to see people is what I enjoy most these days. My cousins and I do have a tradition that we try to continue each year. It started when some of the younger cousins would go to bed early for Santa. Myself and the second oldest cousin would help my aunt stock the tree and such things. Somehow The Muppet's Christmas Carol came up and we decided to watch it until the wee hours of Christmas Morning. Every year we make it a point to sit up late, crack some beers and watch a muppet movie. I also make sure everyone watches A Charlie Brown Christmas on Christmas Day if we can. I love Charlie Brown. Hell I still have my VHS copy of that somewhere.(I know right WTF IS VHS?)*killme*

My only real tradition is calling my mom 2 days before Christmas because I was born on her birthday.

Since Nate and I have been together we always have to do meals in the following order for the holidays:

1) Christmas Eve we go to my parents' place and have a ginormous dinner and open presents (stockings first!).
2) Christmas morning we go to Nate's mom's place and have the most amazingly festive breakfast. Then we do stockings first and then presents.
3) We always went to Nate's grandpop's for Christmas dinner but when he passed away (2 years ago) we started having his dad come over to our house for dinner. We still keep the tradition of having dinner with his dad just moved the location =)

It was the best way we could find to see all of our family and keep all the little traditions everyone liked ^^

My wife and I are starting to establish our own traditions now that our kids are older.

Personally, I always loved running downstairs first thing in the morning and tearing open everything in my stocking. My wife's family always waited until everyone was up and then went down together. I compromised by telling my kids that they all had to go down at the same time.

We spend every other Christmas out of town, so it's a fun tradition to be with the grandparents every other year.
