Wildstar Your Thoughts on Wildstar's Revenue Model

I think packs with random titles , mini pets and costumes in them is still a good idea if they put up a shop.

Ahh. The gambling addiction. I am TERRIBLE at resisting these things. WAAAAAY too much gold spent on geys in GW2.

hence why it would be a good idea from a money making stand point

Technically, yes. But it can create a VERY frustrated player base. When you offer something unique that requires money to gamble, ESPECIALLY if the odds are low or unknown, many people get outraged. Look back at GW2 halloween skins. EVERYONE wanted the unique skins, but the drop rate was <1% for ANY skin to drop, nevermind the skin you actually wanted. And those keys aren't cheap man. You were looking at about a buck a key (or at the time about 1.5-2g a key). That's a lot of a GAMBLING chance.

That's were subers will have X amount of shop cash added to their account every month for subbing!
and GW2 gold is a joke imo you can make soo much money off of trade skill items I think I have over 300G on a lvl 20 some thing then again it's been a while sence I've played... maybe I should get GW2 going again.

I've heard such mixed things about GW2, although not a lot about how their revenue model impacts the game. I tried to get into, but quit fairly early on. Maybe that was a good thing.. I could see myself spending a lot of money trying to win something.

According to our resident economists, it was crap. I agree actually, just in trying to sell certain things.

I really hope they just keep it simple. I'm not a fan of micro-transactions because they really jack w/my enjoyment of the game (you're killing my immersion!). A simple, easy $15/mo to play and I'm Gee-Two-Gee.

I want this game to work and I want it to sustain itself. I think a $15/mo sub would do just that and allow the company to provide updates and a faster pace which will be required for a end-game based mmo.

I definitely prefer it be pay2play. I haven't read the entire thread yet, but Gyoin made some excellent points on why pay2play is a positive thing for the game. While I'd love to get all my friends into the game and free2play would help with that, it just doesn't hold the same standards that a pay2play has.

Myself personally, when I initially hear a MMO is free2play I automatically think that the game must suck. Guild Wars 2 is the only free2play MMO that I tried because it really did seem like it could've been a pay2play but they wanted to get more users in. The updates GW2 provided in my opinion were really lackluster and didn't really get me excited to play or to even log back in after awhile.

I think if Wildstar ships as a pay2play it will grab the more dedicated gamers as well and not the chronic rerollers that try every game and quit a month later. It also makes me think the game has a higher quality in general (whether its true or not)

P2P IMHO.

I'd love to see an in game currency shop with vanity items, mounts, pets, home decor etc.. could help as a "sink" too seeing as they are just doing the traditional economy route.

I am not against a cash shop for things like vanity items or mounts/collectible pets. As long as you can't get gear of any kind through the shop. The moment you can start paying for gear you end up with players who haven't earned it and aren't versed enough in how to play their class to be good enough. When you have raids of 20 and 40 people you need each person to understand their class and their role in the raid. People who pay for their gear will end up with a nonchalant attitude towards the game and not put in the effort required.

I agree with the only vanity items in cash shops. Also nothing that gets in the way of achievements (ie collecting 100 mounts but there are a couple that are $25 etc...)

Now I have not been a part of a game where there are hard raids AND you could "buy" you gear, except with the whole ebaying your account thing. Are there any games/experiences with that?

They're called Pay to Win. And they're miserable. (Neverwinter)

D3 is like that, with the cash shop and all. The main difference is that players could make money too, which just encourages the botters even more. I didn't care for it at all.

The real problem with pay to win is you feel like you have to pay real money for gear. Then it comes down to feeling like the game manufacturers are trying to nickle and dime you to death and there is resentment. Also there is lots of resentment from people looking at other people and saying they didn't "earn" the gear they just bought it.

Its a bad model for keeping customers for the long term, its just to get your money and get out since people get fed up and leave.

Going back to an earlier comment, the GW2 gambling with keys and bl chests and stuff had 2 problems. Drop rate for stuff was too low and global economy made the stuff devalue quickly. It made for a bad experience with spending real money. If you did it with in game gold it would have been fine.

What it really comes down to for me, as far as spending real money in game, is that I don't like to mix my real and virtual lives.

What I mean is, I don't want what I do in real life effecting my character in game, and vice versa. I play video games to relax and escape from real life pressures. i don't want to be staring at an auction saying "OMG, I have $50 riding on this transaction!" I feel like I will enjoy a peice of equipment more if I pay for it in gold rather than dollars because the value of it won't be comparable to anything else.

"I can't believe I bought that mount. I could have had a cheeseburger."

These aren't the decisions I want to be weighing.

The only lifetime sub I can say I've committed to so far is my pledge to the Camelot Unchained kickstarter. I have no idea how that will turn out as I'm gambling both on CU coming to fruition 2-3 years from now AND not switching it's payment model. So far, it seems that lifetime subs in general don't have a great track record with most games going F2P that offered them. There is a definite appeal, but I think it's the 'must have more' portion of my brain that gets me into trouble when I see a steam sale.

What do you guys think of a lifetime sub offer? Have you tried it? Would you take a gamble on Wildstar (not to say it's going to be offered)? Am I insane for contemplating it? ;) I actually doubt that WildStar will offer it, but curious on how others perceive it.

I think a lifetime stub would be worth it as long as we get decent bonuses with the sub, like the rift veteran rewards.

Whose lifetime? Mine, or the game? I think my interest or the game itself will die before I do, so why buy something I know I won't be able to take full advantage of? I'll stick to buying subs in quarterly or 6 month blocks.
