The Captain turned to Jack, "Aren't you the one that is anxious to get out of here? No one could have survived that blast. We are moving out!"
That other guy decided to chime in with another idiotic comment as well? What was his name Cid? Jack suddenly didn't give a shit.
Jack had been surprised by the Captain's snappy response. He quickly shot back, "Hey who isn't anxious to get out of here. We don't have the time or strength to dig through all this anyway. I don't know anyone down there."Jack knew those last words would hurt even as they left his lips. Cursing himself for uttering the words, he shook his head and climbed back up a pile of rubble to keep watch while the others gathered themselves. As he sat there, his mind raced as an internal struggle commenced.
Who gives a shit Jack? Why care if they all die? You have lost too many friends to make new ones now! Just travel with them for survival.
But the Captain, if anyone understands even slightly its her. It can't hurt to have one friend Jack! Who knows how many people are left in the city? Country? World?
In the end Jack knew while it was the tough choice, it wasn't feasible to stay and dig into the night, with no shelter or food. Whoever was down there, if they were still human might not survive the digging or be seriously injured. It wasn't worth risking four lives for one that possibly hovered near death. I hate math, he grumbled to himself as he watched the sun climb higher into the scorched sky....
