TAB AMA TAB AMA - Gyoin and his Beard

Smaller than I expected! And incredibly gay. I mean, you wore white chinos? Is that what they are called? Capri's for men or something right? Caroline and I spotted you in the parking lot and immediately identified you from a distance, that's how much gay vibe we got <3

I was actually nervous about meeting you for the first time though, because I definitely cross a lot of boundaries in person. But you took everything in stride and you had gained a tremendous amount of respect from me. I mean, if someone doesn't laugh at my first few jokes, I start to get incredibly self conscious and nervous, and start to act even more awkward and then downward spirals. So.. Thanks for being awesome :)
LOL aww don't be nervous. I don't think I am intimidating. And I was wearing white skinny jeans rolled up because it was hot outside.

I'm going to steal your question from my AMA: favorite fight as a healer in an MMO?

favorite fight as a healer in an MMO?

Hmm...

There were actually two WoW fights that instantly came to mind.

Razorgore in BWL (WoW). Back in Vanilla, this was Arcanix's gate into BWL. Once we got Razorgore down, it took us less than two weeks to full clear the place, but took us about 6 weeks on Razorgore alone. One of the mechanics of the fight was for hunters to kite a bunch of mobs around in an 8 formation. At the time, patch 1.10 had recently released which was the priest overhaul. Everyone was shitting on the newly introduced Lightwell. I, being a non-min-maxer at the time, wanted to try to find some utility in the "you'd rather be dead than use" lightwell spell. You know what's a perfect user of lightwell? Someone running in a specific formation a repeated number of times. Using LW and a mix of me actually taking aggro (and being across the room in a corner, ready to pop a Fade to drop aggro back and save us some time), we were able to implement a new system to relieve our kiters from taking damage, by allowing a healer to take a bulk of aggro and kite! That was awesome...

Second was also a WoW story. Saurfang in ICC is a damn boring fight for a lot of people. But for the disc priest of the group? It was my shining glory. I remember being able to practically single handedly heal that fight after swapping from shadow to disc. Stupid story, but that was definitely an epeen boost.

I will have to second off your post of how awesome HM Titan in FFXIV was though. Actually, most of the fights in FFXIV were fun as a healer. But I never felt the recognition from my groups in FFXIV as I did in WoW (and most other MMO's, I mostly leveled healers and never did end game stuff, like EQ, EQOA, and FFXI).

Oh, you yourself are nowhere near intimidating. I'm just a mess of internal emotional turmoil, and my only release is by making bad jokes, or else I become completely introverted from anxiety and shut off from the world.

Not in the least. I spent most of the day trying to think of a good title to incorporate the Beard itself, but kept coming up with really long and uninteresting lines... Like "Gyoin's AMA, but all you care about is the Beard" or "The Beard is really the one running this show" to give emphasis on the Beard over me. End of the day, the simpler title worked better.
How many Gyoin beards does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one, as it controls the body it is attached to to do it's bidding.

I, the Beard, am indeed a sentient being able to control the will of my puppet.

What's your obsession with my penis size?

Merely the fact that it causes some great reactions with those involved in the questioning. I've done it to a bunch of dudes and their current significant others. It usually goes one of three ways

1. Awkward pause and a "wait, did he really just ask that?"
2. Dude answers something around or above actual size and the girl just kinda goes "yeah that's right"
3. Chick answers waaaay too quickly and the dude gets caught off guard of how quickly she answered, be it correct or incorrect. Usually it's less about the size itself and a "It works for me" or "It's big enough", as to ensure no masculinity is lost.

I really don't care about the actual information of dudes penis sizes, merely the other information that comes along with it.

You forgot my reaction, which was to tell you about my microdonger.

What kind of wings did you have for lunch?

I think it's list of favorites time!!!

Book, TV show, video game, cartoon, DnD campaign, Pokemon, Manga, and baseball player.

Add any other categories you want :)

I know you love numbers. What's your earliest math related memory?

If you weren't doing what you do for work, what do you think you'd be doing?

Book: I'll translate this to Manga because I don't read a lot of "actual" books (unless you count fan translated japanese / korean Light Novels, in which case Ithink Accel World or SAO holds that title). So I'll say that my top Manga is always a coin flip between Hajime no Ippo and Bakuman currently. Ranma 1/2 is also pretty high on that list.

TV Show: Breaking Bad is a major front runner. Awkwardly to say, MASH is pretty high up there too. I generally watch a lot of sitcoms, and those are good for the moment but have no lasting impact to be called favorite. Like a piece of gum. Good while it lasted.

Video Game: Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past. By far and away my favorite. Most of the classics I play and go "wow, nostalgia skewed my feelings more than I thought", but not with this one. Everytime I play it, it's still the same game I loved even as a kid. Plus, I remember it taking weeks/months to beat when I was younger. Now I can 100% that game in a casual afternoon.

Cartoon: Man, trying to think of old school cartoons I watched, I have a hard time remembering beyond when I started watching anime. Like, there was Nickelodeon, and then I was watching anime. I guess I don't really have a favorite cartoon at this current time.

D&D campaign - The one I'm building right now is currently my favorite. When things settle down from all my IRL stuff and I can put some more time into it, I'll have some things posted on the site.

Pokemon: Obviously Snorlax, I think we all know that by now XD. Funny story how that came to be. Back in the original Red/Blue, there was a glitch to get pokemon over the maximum level of 100 (could bring it to 255, and then it could de-level to level 1 which is impossible to find naturally on any pokemon pre-breeding). One of the cool things about Snorlax is, he would actually beat the maximum HP of 999 if he were brought to level 255. That was one of my earliest "game break, min/max beyond threshold" moments of my gaming life. Everytime I break a game now, it reminds me of Snorlax for some silly reason. Plus he's just so big and fucking lovable.

Baseball Player: Right this second? Probably Mookie Betts. Kid is a rockstar rookie. Still some inexperience, but if he sticks around, he'll be pretty fucking awesome. Getting hits, stealing bases, knocking around some homeruns, and making some great plays out in center.

I know you love numbers. What's your earliest math related memory?

If you weren't doing what you do for work, what do you think you'd be doing?

Earlier Math? Two things come to mind. One is a story my mother used to tell me about how, when watching my father play the original Mario, I would count coins on the screen. And prior to properly being taught how to add, I learned it by realizing the sequence of single digits, to double digits, and triple digits in lives and learning how many more coins were needed for the next life.

The other story is my just counting my swings on a swing set. To a thousand. And my mothers face when I actually hit it, and then her reaction when I said I was then going to count to ten thousand. She walked away so I stopped counting.

And what would I be doing if I wasn't doing this? Whatever would pay more for less work. This is by no means a passion project. I never found my passion actually. So I was driven by what I excelled at rather than "follow my heart". Sure, not having a dream job isn't a blast, but I tolerate and mildly enjoy my job and the pay is good. I don't ever "dread" it, only sometimes don't want to go in because I'm lazy. Honestly can't think of anything I'd rather be doing, other than doing nothing.
