Blacklight Retribution - The best multiplayer FPS, and free to play?

One of the most polished games I have played, and by far the best FPS I have played for a while. They just "Launched" out of closed beta, and are working on quite a few things.

The catch of this game is it uses a cash shop, and you can unlock all of the gear with RL cash.

But most of the gear is a very "horizontal" move, and I have maintained a 3:1 K/D ratio with the default gear. It's mostly for customization/etc.

Overall, it's free to play and was recently added to steam.

My tip: Receivers are the base part of a weapon, and have the most impact on the gun. (Assault Rifle, SMG, LMG, Heavy Assault Rifle, Combat Rifle (Single shot), and Bolt-Action.)

My main gripe is the cash shop, as I tend to spend way too much money on them, but I've been playing for a few days now and I have no issues competing with other players and I haven't spent a dime.

They have a "Gambling" system like TF2, but most of it is very visual and doesn't have much impact.

All in all, I will be playing this, Civilization 5, Arma 2 DayZ, until Guild Wars 2 comes out.

Yeah I saw a review on this somewhere else, I believe it might have been G4. Ill have to check it out today.

/sucked in. I just downloaded the game and bought the starter pack. I haven't played a first person shooter for more than 10 minutes since quake 1. So... ya. I'll probably suck. Anyway, it seems like a good way to waste some time and I felt like spending 10 dollars on really nothing.

Ok this game is pretty damn fun. Played with a bunch of the guys. Download this if ya wanna play some with us. We will be.

I also tried smite.. it would be way more fun with a group. But it is still LoL first person style. Or Monday Night Combat but with Magic.

Yeah, tr1age...Blacklight is ridiculously fun. It's hard to really state in words why, but the HRV (very short wallhack) makes for much faster pace gameplay where you are really immersed in the layout of the game and the depth instead of the minimap, waiting for those red dots to appear and focusing on a birds eye view.

They also have that cash shop, that is VERY expensive...but I guess people with patience will unlock what they want. It's sort of opposite of call of duty, and most games today...where the goal is to unlock everything. Blacklight Retribution is about unlocking what works for you, and what you enjoy. But it costs a lot to unlock each piece, so you have to put a lot of thought into it. The decision means more, and it gives customization more impact. It just feels more satisfying when you get a gun completely customized and you tweak all of the stats on it...knowing how much time you put into it.

Smite is more for the WoW players and Arena fans, where League is for the RTS Starcraft players. I think it is a very nice balance, and is by far more fun with some friends where you can coordinate.

I'll be online today to play too. I like it a lot and after more research I can plan out my buys. /excited

Gyoin is my tag. Add me. I usually don't add people. That's one of my few lazy flaws.

Feel free to add me. My display name is Eneco, username is Nmeneco. (Not sure which one you add, pretty sure its the display)

Game seems like it would be a decent time waster til GW2. I want to like it but I am having a helluva time joining games, losing connection to host, and then when I DO get in a game I've gotten like two back to back BSOD's... :(

First game I've ever had these kind of issues with! I just wanted to kill some peeps with yall!

downloading it now....

jord0....with a zero at the end...is my username

i'll be down to play with you all

Anyone who hasnt given this a try should, pretty sweet game that its easy not to get attached too, becuase its free!

I been playing. Do a few games, die alot cause I suck, log out. Rinse repeat. I am actually better at support for other more accurate shooters and I go for the mission objectives instead of just trying to get kills. So far my best kill/death ratio is 8:10 worst is 1:19 lol.

It's good. the best thing is that you don't have to spend real money. most items you want to buy can be earned from 5 or less games, so like half an hour.

ThatOneGuy, I wouldn't say 5 or less games.

An entire weapon customized (5-6 parts) costs 40-45k GP, which takes about 200 games if you get 200gp each game.

You dont need a fully upgraded customized weapon though. Even the noob weapon puts em in the dirt~

Yeah. I'd highly suggest finding a premade you really enjoy using, and then sticking with that while you buy custom parts.

I was thinking more of renting premade items. Building from scratch does cost alot.

I just started giving this game a go. Seems pretty fun. Damned if I know what I'm doing though. The maps, objectives, normal FPS controls are all easy enough, but figuring out what, when, and how to upgrade stuff is confusing. I just use the stuff the game started me with. I had visions of Counterstrike, and there's a little of that, but the lack of weapon/armor choices is frustrating.

Anyway, my handle is MathirUthGan
