Crowfall - Kickstarter Updates

I already ran and was elected for tyrant, all who wish to live may have a plot in my kingdom of Crakeopia

Ironically, I just submitted a kickstarter for this a couple hours ago.

I'd also be open to being the guild accountant. That is, until I inevitably become bored of the game and barely even give a crash course to that who replaces my role XD

I think, given that we should be prepared for the inevitable abandonment of Gyoin, that you teach someone else from day one. That way when you do lose interest, we have someone who can pick up the slack. Possibly one of our other accountants?

Teach him with a speak and spell to help expedite the process.

Project Update #20 | 03/22/15
You guys are amazing.

We just crossed $1.3 million in pledges, and you know what that means:

- The MOUNT system!

- The CARAVAN system! ...which means escort activities, ambushing, and a TON of emergent gameplay!

And it means three in-game Mount Figurines are unlocked as a bonus backer reward:

Quarter Horse (at $60), Quarter Horse + Warhorse (at $100), and Quarter Horse + Warhorse + Nightmare ($130 and above!)

[bimg=bcenter|700|center|(Left > Right) Nightmare, Warhorse, Quarter horse]https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/003/478/511/40a00368e16a14e776f7932056877348_original.png?v=1426974777&w=700&h=&fit=max&auto=format&lossless=true&s=d62ebfb681ea3bfb5e9b67ff94c4d390[/bimg]

Thank you guys SO MUCH for helping us achieve this goal. Resource collection is a massive part of our vision, and the Caravan system is going to make the foundation of that game much, much stronger!

Also, we have decided that a slight tweak to our reward structure is in order -- to your benefit, of course!

The idea behind the backer goals was to create a smaller set of "thank you" rewards to go in between the larger stretch goal amounts. As it turns out, the 14,500 backer reward (bonus pack pig for all backers) looks like it would hit at roughly the same time as the $1.4m rewards -- which kind of goes against the point of having staggered rewards!

Since the caravan system is now official IN the plan, we're changing the pack pig to come in at only 14,000 backers instead of 14,500. That's right: same great Pack Pig, but now it's only a few hundred backers away!

Again, we can't thank you enough for the support you have shown us, and for the faith you have placed in our vision and our team.

4 days left! Keep spreading the word, and let's keep the momentum going!

Wow! We're really hitting those goals, now!

Crowfall is now the 17th largest video game in Kickstarter history. 14,000 backers support this project. That's absolutely amazing! As a result, everyone who pledges will receive the illustrious Pack Pig! Let's take a minute to talk about backer goals.

We added backer goals to keep things exciting between the larger (and frankly, more expensive) monetary stretch goals. The philosophy is "small, but cool." (In order words: make them fun, but don't break the bank -- because they don't technically bring more money to the game!)

We added the VR backer goal because we think it would be fun to play with, we have really great ideas for the technology-- and because our game engine, Unity 5, makes it affordable. But, frankly, the feedback has been mixed.

Some people (who are really into the idea of VR) are really into it! Others (who aren't) found it somewhat uninspiring.

Obviously we can't have that! Rewards should be cool. So, in the spirit of being responsive to our backers, we've decided to insert a new Backer goal to keep the momentum going.

Bonus parcels! At 14,500 backers, we're adding the following tax-free parcels to the following tiers!
  • $40 = 1 tax-free parcel
  • $60 = 2 tax-free parcels
  • $100 = 2 tax-free parcels
  • $130 = 3 tax-free parcels
  • $175 = 3 tax-free parcels
  • $250 = +4 = 9 total tax-free parcels
  • $500 = +5 = 15 total tax-free parcels
  • $1000 = +10 = 30 total tax-free parcels
  • $2500 = +40 = 80 total tax-free parcels
  • $5000 = +100 = 180 total tax-free parcels
  • $10000 = +160 = 320 total tax-free parcels!

Ugh. I need to know what's in a parcel now. I'm at a $36 donation tier, and an extra 4 dollars... If that's worth a parcel or not justifies if I throw the extra few bucks.

I initially skimmed through the Kingdom content material (Project Update #19 | 03/20/15) because it was so lengthy, but to consolidate the parcel notes, here's what I gather...

Every Kingdom starts out as a grid of "wild" land. This land must be cultivated before it can built upon, and a parcel is how this is done. Parcels are Tetris shaped pieces of cultivated land that, when dropped into your Kingdom grid, allow you to build upon them. Wild cells cannot have structures built on them.

pBsuxMmkABLWise65dFl-naGfBjXOThD_wMWZtSuYSSOxr6nnVcNvd72jCojTZI4cr83NQn6Q4mSpbUt_x236AMitoLUblPhLyLIbcmyDc0oaNAo5tipYeqrBlbH2E5CKBP3P2p4ijbfQgQoOZM1P1pJzl2LE0Cvf8wUHFpgkzkOArlNHCjPH1eBHIwaLG-c4ypVQmc1SD2E72pyXRAdTon_PZis9xCSvou7NBKzNzF9McM4GfkIV-RRpJH3UlZMmE5p=s0-d-e1-ft

In the image above, the grid is the Kingdom, the middle Tetrisy piece is a parcel, and the smaller, rightmost piece shows buildings dropped upon a required parcel cell.

Parcel is a bit of a misnomer (especially in conjunction with the "Pack Pig" notes) because parcels are not actually packages. I suspect the etymology might branch from their "voxel" system, or at the very least the -cel ("cell"?) portion of parcel.

Outside of procuring parcels as Kickstarter bonuses, resources to build parcels can be farmed in the Campaign Worlds. I don't believe these costs have been revealed yet, nor any details about how you can be taxed by having one.

I hope this helps! If I'm off base, please correct me.

Lets call a parcel your owned land. For example, I own a house, and the land its built on. Until you drop a parcel down, the land doesn't do anything for you. But it also doesn't cost you anything. The way it seems to work is this: For each parcel you own, you are taxed a certain amount. If you get behind in your tax payments, you buildings will begin to degrade until the wild reclaims them - until you pay all your owed tax.

Tax-free parcels then, are an excellent asset to have.

I can't imagine who I'd pay taxes to in my own Kingdom, except the Gods. What jerks. They actually collect!

$1.4 million? Really?! It seems like just the other night we were posting an update to thank you for hitting $1.3 million!
Oh! That's because... we did!

We have officially gathered over $1.4 million in pledges for Crowfall. This amazing number means that we can now include the God's Reach (3 faction) rules set to the core module, and it means that the "Artifacts and Relics" system is a GO!

AND it looks like we're going to need a new stretch goal!

So, at $1.5 million, we're adding "the Infected" ruleset + bonus "Minotaur" archetype!

The Infected ruleset is the multi-faction system that supports the War-of-the-Gods: 12 factions, one for each God, warring for supremacy of a Campaign World. We've really looking forward to having this ruleset and we REALLY hope you guys will support us to make it happen sooner, rather than later!

...AND in addition to that, we're going to take this opportunity to add another Archetype to the mix: the Minotaur! As some of you already know, we're big fans of the Bullmen around here. (And no, not just because of our close proximity to UT Austin.) The Minotaur Myrmidon was an archetype that we wanted at launch... but for cost reasons, we cut him. At $1.5 million, we're going to change that.

And as a special "thank you" to our VIP members (which, thanks to the unlocked 13,000 backer reward means ALL of you!) we're going to give you a 1-month head start on creating characters of this type.
As always, thank you SO MUCH for making this happen, and please keep spreading the word about Crowfall!
