GW2 Gyoin is LFG for sPvP in TOURNAMENTS

< is serious. Only good with one type of build though, so I'm working on more (in sPvP ofc, not tourneys). Would not consider myself skilled in a class until I'm proficient in every possible build/skill set/play style, so that's a ways off for me :/ anyhoo if it's not enough I'll just go practice some more. :p

Ok I think people need to understand the important factor here:

WE WANT TO WIN. I appreciate the people who posted who are testing out sPvP and trying it out. We can always do games with you to get you better, but for NOW we are looking for people who are SKILLED in their class and want to kick some ass. It will be competitive, it will get temperamental, and it will be strict. But it will be rewarding. Gyoin correct me if I am wrong.

With that in MIND please only post here if you are "super serious" :)

Yes, I am looking for a super serious team. I am also looking for people that are willing to go above and beyond. If you want to be a part of this and you're still nubbish, it's time to play a lot of SPvP. I'm not saying just during the hours I posted, but other times as well. If you're a low rank, figuring out specs, still learning the game, play. Play a lot. I need people who know the difference between stalling opponents and wasted efforts. The difference in stomping a guy quickly and holding a downed position (and why). Basic strategies for each map.

I want to start this soon, but with the holidays approaching it may be difficult for everyone to be super dedicated. Hence the LFG. The purpose for the post was to get people to START TRAINING. At some point in the very near future (coughthisweekend) I want people to start approaching me and playing in some pugs or even go into free tournaments to get a better feel for eachother. Theory craft all you want, but the end result is WIN OR LOSE. I want to win.

Also, been doing a ton of theory crafting. All of those interested try to get a hold of me this weekend via alttabme PM's, Mumble, and in-game. I'll toss my cell phone number around and we'll try to coordinate some practices and training stuff, as well as executing strategies.

Yes yes yes. This what I failed to start a few months ago when the guild was much more focused on pve than starting a team . I wanted a serious team of dedicated spvpers. This means devoting the majority of your game time to spvp and getting good with at least 2 classes. We need continuity, dynamics, structure, and flexibility with our team in order to be successful.

NOW is the time to play a lot of spvp and develope you skills because the NEW SPVP PATCH is coming soon( most likely January/February) and that is where we can take our team to the next level. It will allow us to train on our own server and it should bring a new game mode. So get in there now if ur testing it out.

Admin Edit: Strike threw is meant to mean "do not project ones own philosophies" onto that of the entire group.

I agree, but also disagree with this statement. I don't mean devoting majority of your time to SPvP because PvE and WvW are still a large aspect of the game. But I do agree with devoting MORE time to SPvP and making it a serious commitment. I also heavily agree with the "getting good with at least 2 classes" statement. I've been talking with Mike all morning about me trying out bunker guardians more. A lot more.

I'd love to play but it seems that I'm online the exact OPPOSITE time from the rest of the guild. *sadface*

I will join. I am on the west coast so I get home from work a little later than those of you on the east side, but I'm definitely down to put in the time and effort to win. I'd prefer to play my elementalists. I'm currently using a build that focuses on survival and aoe (for zoning points); that also throws out a good amount of buffs and heals. I try to spend most of my free to play time on mumble, so if you see me on there come grab me anytime as we start to work out the schedule.

I'm interested and quick to learn, I just need a little guidance. I need to know what roles you're looking for and what you'd recommend for that. Then I can practice until I get it. I've been mostly bubbled up in pve, but I've recently done a lot of spvp as ranger and thief. I just don't know all the builds- and to look at all classes and all builds is too overwhelming right now. Point me in a direction. :)

Phew. Ok. With all of the class changes last night (and ANet's current stance on PvP), we have a good chunk of work to do.

What we were originally planing on doing was working with.... 1 Bunker, 1 Roamer (Thief), 1 harasser, and 2 heavy damage. I tried and tried to get used to both engy and guard bunker.... But my god is it lame. I couldn't do it. I will most likely be going back to my Ranger Condition based build. Mike is already one of the best thieves we have, and Tristan being his Truck Mesmer build we're still looking for a bunker and a damage/harass player (elementalist would fit this role quite well).

Basic strategy we have thought out for most maps is
A. Capture closest point
B. Capture middle point - Bunker Camp
C. Scout for movement
D. Move to where the biggest threat is GOING TO, not where it already has taken control.
E. Map nuances as needed (beasts/treb/guildlord)

Basic strategy - Hold 2 points as long as possible. If A and B are claimed, hold. Bunker holds mid and calls inc when needed. If 1 or 2, hold point and Roamer assists. If 3 or more, Damage Dealers assist. If 4/5, attack C while B is under attack. Similar situation if A is under attack. It's easier to win when you can communicate movements while they are happening. Biggest downfall is SLOW COMMUNICATION. This is important. Everyone needs to know the fastest route from their current location to any node/POI. Time is key, and information gathering is just as important as gameplay. If we know what the opposition is planning, we can counter it. If we see them swarming as a 5 man team, we back cap. If they are an even split 3/2, we hold and shift accordingly.

Simple strategy, but it works. Now we just need to test it. Sorry I haven't been online much today, but one laptop went down and we had to get it fixed. I will be available more in the upcoming days.

I like this strat. To expand explicitly on back capping in the case of their team over committing - i.e. they send everyone or one less than everyone on their team to one point. If they have a roaming zerg of 5 people going around together rather than try to beat them with 3-4 people feeding them kills and ultimately losing the point, we can fall back and take the two points they are not at. Not to be confused with reacting to points they have already taken. So rather than trying to get enough people to center point to defend against 5 people who have already started to move, to instead send a person or two to the point they just left and be ready to stay out of their way, always having the two points they are not at/going to until they are force to split up then go back to the standard strat.

We may want to keep it simple at first and just practice the base strat, but we should put this into our playbook at some point.

Edit: I miss read the strat a little bit when I first wrote this, so it's slightly redundant. But I think it's important to be ready for the 5 man zerg, many teams fail to properly prepare for it and are caught off guard when it actually comes.

I'm much better at playing range/caster builds than melee. If you think ele can survive well enough to be a harasser, I'm down for that. Are you sure necro or ranger wouldn't be better? Also, would it be possible for a range/caster to play a bunker role? If so, what class do you think would be best?

I definitely want to win. I'm a very competitive person.

Teach me your ways, sensei!

Holy buffed my Phantasm build even more BATMAN!

  • Phantasms now initiate combat after .25 seconds instead of one second.
  • Phantasmal Mariner: This phantasm now attacks more often, but does damage in line with its attack rate.
  • Illusionary Whaler: This phantasm now attacks more often, and now does a reasonable amount of damage.
  • Blade Training: This trait is now applied to off-hand sword skills.

I'm probably really late on this, do you all still need any roles filled in the group? Really want a competitive group for tournys an etc. I'll play any role / class doesn't matter. Pree vee pree ftw!

We've all been playing, but at scattered times. With the holiday season it's really hard to get a coordinated group going, but it's a "Play with who's on together" to get a feel for one another situation at the moment. You know my number, text me if you want to play.

Obviously when I posted this thread it was the worst time of the year to try and organize a group function. Everyone who is interested, please try to continue practicing in some pugs for a bit. Learn some extra classes mechanics as well, it may help defeat the people you are having issues with. If warriors wreck you, roll as one for a bit, learn how they work. Knowledge of every class is the best way to start countering one.

I am in need of such a group... I tried to solo queue but it's always a bunch of chickens running around vs. an elite kill sqad with voice chat.

I'm 100% warrior in sPvP - he's big on the crit. Rank is unfortunately under 10. I'll get on that.

SO I think the best thing here is we are going to announce the members who get a trial run at the team to gauge your skill, teamwork, and over all knowledge. From there we will have substitutes and maybe even a second string. So stay tuned for the roster!

When I get my laptop back and/or get a new one I will be setting out to learn bunker/tank/staller guardian.
