What's new

Kel's new rig proposal

Yeah, my last mobo was AMD, so I started to get suspicious that it may not be compatible. Glad I figured it out now and not while I was trying to install it.[DOUBLEPOST=1386167270,1386166885][/DOUBLEPOST]Since I have to wait for that case now, I probly won't be able to build until this weekend at soonest. :(

You can assemble it outside the case and install Windows already. :p

I'm still waiting for some components, like my video card and SSD, which I will put the OS on.[DOUBLEPOST=1386186531,1386186459][/DOUBLEPOST]Do I need a special sized bay for the SSD? The one I got has the 5.25 external and the 3.5? internal. I may be remembering the internal one wrong.

most drive bays will support a ssd, and if it does not ssd's dont get hot or have moving components so you could even just tape it in place or just set it on top of something.

One thing... make sure that you don't consider your web browser as part of your operating system. Because of the way solid state drives work, you can burn them out really fast by keeping your web browser on it. I would strongly recommend making sure your web browser and the temporary files it stores are going to your main hdd.

I plan to have the OS and a few games on the SSD, and that's it.

The drivers would have to go on the SSD as well, right?

not sure about the whole burning out thing. dont think it is really a problem anymore. i know i have everything on my ssd.

I Have almost everything on mine as well when SSD's first came out there was talk about them burning out ,but like i said now a days its not a big deal

I was just giving a friendly warning. My friend bought a corsair one last year and its starting to go out already because of the temporary internet files. .

odd... didn't know AMD Vs Intel boards had any differences in format... afaik there are only a few standards
MicroATX, MiniAtx, ATX and the likes.. not like anyone would be insane enough to build something outside the norm that noone could use straight out the box...

Could you enlighten me on why the board didn't work for your case?

/confused

there are many different sockets for processors that different motherboards have, and intell and amd use different ones.

Are you using SLC, MLC or TLC?
SLC=100k times rewrites
MLC=10k times rewrite
TLC=5k times rewrite[DOUBLEPOST=1386229591,1386229556][/DOUBLEPOST]

Porn is the reason that external Harddrives exist.

perhaps you misunderstood me, I realize that procesor sockets are different and all that but he was saying his MOBO wasn't compatible with his case... so i'm wondering why unless he bought a ATX board and a MicroATX case... (which i'm guessing is what happened)

Nope. I hadn't bought a new case yet because I was hoping to use the old one.

When I did buy a case, I made sure to look at the form factor in the mobo manual (ATX) and buy a case that matched.
