We want to gauge Exile and Dominion split on the site, plus we have so many side convos on opinions might as well put it all in one place.
I held a poll over at Wildstar Central: http://wildstar-central.com/index.php?threads/for-the-horde-err-exiles-err-dominion.3488/ I called it For the Horde... err Exiles... err Dominion!??!
It was a really cool chat. It seems it is pretty damn split down the middle. What I came up with though was it is more people liking specific races over a faction as a whole. As well, FACE value, Dominion = "For the Horde" but looking into history and lore, Exiles = "For the Horde"
Gyoin has a great post in there which I will quote here:
I think Carbine did a very good job in trying to equalize the factions to attract a similar mix of players to each side.WoW (vanilla) had the monsters on one side and the cute/humanoid races on the other, making more of a distinct choice for payers, which seemed to result (at least at first) in older gamers going Horde and younger gamers going Alliance.Don't see that as an issue here, but who knows. That's how I started to see this. Many horde players in the past would always think of the Alliance as "children", just because of the feel of goody goody usually attracting such type players. When trying to decipher this in the case of Exiles and Dominion, it's really hard to try to pinpoint which side will be the "childish" side, as both seem to have a good mix of mature and non-mature feels.
Also, this has a lot to do with the current player base in MMO's. The community has grown well beyond what it was in Vanilla WoW. Many people have stopped playing MMO's as a whole, but way more people have picked it up. Also, the "kids" in vanilla are now in the "adults" category and, most likely, their tastes have changed (due to their gaming influence or other situations). There are obviously new younger people playing MMO's, and I'm sure the whimsical parts of both sides will attract a relatively even mix. Hopefully it won't just be adults vs kiddos, but truly back to the game of exiles vs. dominion.
Back on topic: When I was playing WoW, I always felt the Alliance being an oppressive force against the horde, and the horde needed to retaliate against the alliance. Of course, I'm not a lore fanatic and I really don't know the true nature in that regards, but that's how I felt it to be. In the current view of the exiles and dominion, it feels like the dominion are the oppressive force against the exiles. The exiles are trying to grow and evolve and form a society, while the dominion are there to snuff it out.
I never had the feeling of evil versus good in WoW. I did, however, feel underdogs vs. favorites. That's how I'm viewing wildstar to be as well.
Horde - Exiles are the underdogs.
Alliance - Dominian are the favorites.
Again, this is all I feel, not fact XD
Overall just a fun discussion. Thread in images below this:
