Favorite Manga - Anime

I got into anime/manga in college, so I've been doing some catching up.

Manga- I own
Dragonball/Dragonball Z
Naruto (through volume 40, then I got bored)
I also own the complete Ultimate Spiderman comic line, but that's hardly manga

Anime-
Bleach (skipping the LAME filler crap)
Those Who Hunt Elves
Fruits Basket
Slayers (Seasons 1-3 only)
D.N.Angel
YuGiOh (less into it now than in college)
Full Metal Alchemist
Full Metal Panic (Fuumofuu wtw! TSR, less so)
Excel Saga (for when I need something weird)
Roroni Kenshin (I have a 9 disc set. I think I've watched 5 of em)

Just finished the first Ghost in the Shell movie released in 1995, boy was it interesting. I'm going to start on SAC soon. If anyone can explain it a little more, I would be very interested in listening.

ghost in the shell is really hard to explain... the best thing you could do is just to look for the wiki and watch it in the recommended order which i believe is (i cant access wiki from work)

Ghost in the Shell Movie
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence movie

in an alternate universe....

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (1st season laughing man)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig (second season individual 11)
Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society (movie)

BTW I do STRONGLY suggest you watch it all... it is an EXTRAORDINARY piece of art as a whole.

I do plan on watching it on a whole, I do however want to delve within its meaning a bit more, it's really intriguing. It's brought up some really interesting points such as where do we draw the line between human and machine, is it merely to have a conscious, or "ghost", or beyond that. Also, in the world of Ghost in the Shell, it is hard to perceive what is reality and what is cyberspace as it has been really closely linked in the story.

Can't wait to watch this whole thing, but I still want to know what you guys think about the end of the first movie. For example: (SPOILER ALERT)
What happens to Makoto in the end, do her and the Puppet Master actually sync and produce offspring? Also is that really Makoto in the end or is it them combined together or just their offspring altogether

So many questions, so much excitement.

well they actually fuse together into a whole conscience its not an offspring just a different container (body) as both of their previous bodies were destroyed

That's what I kinda meant, but your wording cleared it up a bit for me.

Oh, I also forgot to add one of the anime I watch(ed) Neon Genesis Evangelion is pretty interesting. Appleseed seems really similar to Ghost in the Shell I might watch a little bit of the anime series.

have you watched the new evangelion movies? if not then its a must... stop posting here.. go and buy the bluerays and watch them in HD inmediately... Evangelion 1.1 and 2.2... actually 3.0 just came out a few days ago in japan so... perfect timing...
actually just look for the torrents but buying the BD is totally worth it

Oh my God what. I heard there were movies but I didn't hear about a third one. Thanks for telling me.

I also forgot to say that an OVA of Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito was released in Japan in April and was subbed in September, and it is not bad.

havn't really followed Code Geass much after the original series.. that Boukou no akito is set in the edo era japan.. i think... somehow it just doesn't feel like i'll like it much... btw if you are into reading manga and not just anime... dude... i have been reading KUBERA... OMG its sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good, its my new thing hehe

It's a great continuation of the story, albeit slightly wonky with the added character (trying to not spoil).

I'm not a very consistent watcher of anime, but I really enjoyed the original Mobile Suit Gundam. My friend has also been advocating Full Metal Alchemist.

My favorite anime has to be Darker than Black. Its just amazing.

And a lot of other shit, that I don't want to list.

but Darker than black, go watch it <3

I rarely do read manga, I prefer to watch anime, but my friend always bugs me about how manga is way better. I wish I had the time to actually read the manga but I don't. D:

Another good anime if anyone has heard of it is Monster and D.Grayman.

Ultra CHEZ - I really recommend you watch Full Metal Alchemist as well, I personally loved it.

if watching Full metal alchemist for the first time... go for Brotherhood... its a remake and its waaay better than the original series... and sticks to the manga (the first series didn't)

It's actually faster to read a manga than it is to watch an anime. In a manga, there is little to no filler and you read at your own speed. Anime on the other hand, is predetermined time and may have a lot of crap in it that you've seen once, twice, three times etc.

When you start cutting out opening scenes, ending scenes, previews, recaps, flashbacks, and fillers.... You're left with about 10 minutes of content in a 23 minute video. Sucks, but it's truth. And that's still slower than reading the manga. Typically.
