AltTabMe The community that believes in Captilization and Grammar

See? When I get too irritated to post I just shouldn't. That's what I get for changing "adult" to "grown-up."

I give foreigners a pass most of the time, but I get really irked when someone born and raised in the states acts like a complete toolbag on the Internet and does shit like "hay gurlz, suk mah dik?" I mean... Really? At least spell dick right. You dick.

I read a lot as a kid, which is where I learned most of my spelling and grammar. The trouble with this is that I'd only seen large parts of my vocabulary and never heard it aloud, so my pronunciation was sometimes... suspect.

"a" if the following word begins with a consonant, "an" if the following word begins with a vowel. For the most part, there are certain exceptions.

Actually that is not correct, It deals with the sound, not the actual letter. For example, "I received a one on my test" The starting sound of "one" is actually a W like "won". - Another example is "I'll be there in an hour" The H is silent and the starting sound is a vowel, therefore we use "an".

I just wanted to use this as an example as people learn things differently. There isn't anyone that is perfect; someone may not know English grammar as much as you do, but there is someone that knows it better. Also, the person that doesn't know English grammar as well will know something else that they consider basic or easy, but you may have no clue.

Such as "I am an honest man" - the "h" is silent.

Yes, nice example, but that isn't an exception. This is still part of the rule.

I try to use as much proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar as I can. Mostly because I like the language and it bugs me if my writing isn't as clear as it should be. I often edit posts one or more times after I make them, correcting errors or trying to be more clear. I've pointed out spelling errors in various places on the site because I know we want it to look as nice as possible.

However, I recognize that as a personal preference in how I present myself. I consider forum communication to be informal, so other than jokingly pointing out a misspelling that creates an irony or poking at a friend, I give things a pass. I think that the active members and leadership here set an example and a culture in the types of posts that are written and in the way we treat each other. I feel that as new members come in, they will either float to the standard provided or will find another home that better suits their style. I think that will happen naturally, without a whole lot of effort on anyone's part. It's the law of magnetism. We tend to attract those that are like us.[DOUBLEPOST=1374639787,1374639289][/DOUBLEPOST]
How old and educated can a person be without knowing that "I" needs to be capitalized? The sad state of education terrifies me.

I don't think it's fair to make an assumption about some one's intelligence, upbringing, or education based on written communication alone. I think some one could be very old and quite well educated and still use your instead of you're. We all have our pet peeves, but let's try not to let it get personal.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do I still manage to use proper grammar. Stay educated my friends.

Interesting about "a" and "an", that's just always how it was taught to me but now I understand it better

I never really know when to use a semi-colon though. Someone enlighten me please.

Truth be told English (both british and american), is a language that amuses me because for a latin language speaker it's absolutely senseless and anarchic... the rules are so very vague and the number of "well this is the rule but in this case it works like this" moments are far too many.
Punctuation and capitalization should be followed, well... atleast to a degree... like I don't care if someone writes "dont" without an apostrophe, but I absolutely hate it when I read a post that has 0 commas, I just feel like I have to read it all in one breath. *dead*

I usually post and post in chat from my cellular telephone. Because I have ginormous fingers, it is hard sometimes to type accurately on my S3. So if I make a post that looks derpy, you know why. I usually type in pretty good sentence structures and spell things well, because of my past experiences with a text based RPG.
